Rune Naming Rules
Understand the naming rules defined by the Bitcoin Runes protocol.
Bitcoin Rune names#
Bitcoin Rune names use uppercase letters A through Z and can be one to 26 letters long. A bullet character may be used as a visual spacer, but spacers do not change a name's uniqueness. The Ordinals specification defines the canonical interpretation and reserved-name behavior.
Naming examples#
| Example | Protocol naming result |
|---|---|
| ALPHA | Valid uppercase-letter name |
| A•L•P•H•A | Valid display spacing; same uniqueness basis as ALPHA |
| alpha | Not canonical uppercase protocol spelling |
| ALPHA-1 | Not a letters-only Bitcoin Rune name |
Runes form fields#
The Create form does not enforce Bitcoin Rune naming rules. Its token name accepts 2 to 40 characters, while its ticker accepts 2 to 10 alphanumeric characters. These values become Solana token metadata for the selected launch path.
